More control, more profits: ATP Lab’s bet

In an industry where marketing claims often carry more weight than the actual quality of products, ATP Lab stands apart. Based in Granby, the company founded by Styve Morin champions a radical approach to dietary supplements: more control to generate more profits.

While much of the industry maximizes margins by relying on low-cost raw materials, Styve Morin chose integrity as an economic strategy—and the results increasingly suggest he was right.

The gap between the label and reality

The global dietary supplement market suffers from a chronic lack of trust. “In our industry, there can be up to a 20% gap between what’s written on the label and what’s actually in the product,” Styve Morin points out.

This discrepancy is far from trivial. It stems from the use of uneven-quality raw materials, imprecise dosages, or the addition of fillers meant to cut costs.

The consequences are very real: ineffective products, allergic reactions, and—for professional athletes—the risk of unknowingly consuming banned substances.

A former athlete himself, the entrepreneur knows this problem firsthand. It was this repeated observation over the years that shaped ATP Lab’s positioning: producing supplements whose accuracy and purity are beyond question.

A model where quality outweighs short-term profitability

“Anything that doesn’t meet an uncompromising level of purity is immediately destroyed, even if it represents several hundred thousand dollars in losses,” explains Styve Morin.

A counterintuitive decision that could be seen as an expensive obsession. In reality, it forms the foundation of a rare competitive advantage in a global market saturated with broken promises.

Against prevailing industry practices, ATP Lab has built a model where quality takes precedence over short-term profitability.

A philosophy built on three pillars

La philosophie d’affaires d’ATP Lab  repose sur trois piliers.

1. Rigorous selection of raw materials

Ingredients are sourced from carefully vetted suppliers, often patent holders, chosen for full traceability. ATP Lab’s teams require exhaustive documentation or travel directly to manufacturers when necessary.

2. Systematic testing by third-party laboratories

Each batch of ingredients is sampled, sent to an independent lab, and analyzed for purity, potency, and the absence of contaminants. The finished product undergoes the same process. It’s a costly procedure, but essential for Styve Morin: “We have to be able to guarantee that what’s written on the label is exactly what’s in the bottle.”

3. Integrity before margins

Entire batches are sometimes discarded. Morin doesn’t hide it: “Yes, we’ve thrown out full batches. It’s happened. It represents significant losses. But it’s non-negotiable.”

This rigor has enabled ATP Lab to obtain Informed Choice and Informed Sport certifications—now essential credentials for working with professional teams. The Boston Bruins and the Calgary Flames have taken notice.

Toward stricter industry regulation

“The future of the supplement market belongs to companies that put raw-material quality at the heart of their strategy,” Styve Morin repeats.

Today’s consumers are better informed and no longer fooled by catchy slogans or flashy packaging. They are looking for clean products, free of unnecessary chemical additives, with effectiveness backed by top-tier ingredients.

Styve Morin also advocates for stricter industry regulation, similar to that of the pharmaceutical sector, to protect consumers and raise standards across the board. Ultimately, investing in high-quality raw materials is not just a safety measure; it’s a commitment to customer respect and genuine product effectiveness.

In an industry undergoing rapid change, this positioning may well become the norm. And while profitability may not be immediate, Morin is convinced of one thing: trust is what creates lasting value.
